Why I love this recipe:

Better than box mix – Taking a few minutes to make your own caramelized onions adds such a delicious and fresh flavor that can’t be replicated with any packet! Crowd Pleaser – This dip gets gobbled up so fast! I love to serve it with lunch outside or bring to a BBQ! Versatile – I love dipping potato chips, pretzel thins, pita bread, crackers, or veggies in this dip. I also love to use it as a spread for burgers or sandwiches.

Make Ahead Instructions:

To Make Ahead: I like to caramelize the onions in advance so the dip is easy to throw together in just a few minutes. The dip can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. I love to use leftovers as a spread for burgers or sandwiches! Caramelize Onions: Heat butter and oil in a sauté pan over low heat. Add onions. Cook, stirring every few minutes, for about 30 minutes, until caramelized and a deep rich golden color. Remove to bowl to cool. Stir caramelized onions into dip. Taste and add salt and pepper, as needed. (I like to reserve a pinch of chives and caramelized onions to add on top of the dip before serving.) Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend. Serve with dipping items like ruffles or kettle potato chips, pretzel thins, pita bread, crackers, or veggies. Use leftover dip as a condiment for burgers or sandwiches. This post contains affiliate links.
