Frozen Irish Mudslide Recipe

Frozen mudslides are a decadent dessert-like drink made with three types of alcohol — Irish whiskey, Baileys Irish Cream, and Kahlua — for what I think tastes like a slightly boozy milkshake with an abundance of chocolate syrup. Despite the three alcohols, these really aren’t too boozy when you consider the alcohol is split between two mudslides. Plus, there’s plenty of vanilla ice cream. The Irish mudslides are of course a perfect St. Paddy’s day treat. However, they’re also great when the weather is warm and you’re looking for a sweet treat to cool you down.

Frozen Mudslide Drink Ingredients

For a perfectly boozy frozen mudslide, you’ll want to have the following ingredients on hand:

Chocolate syrup Irish whiskey (such as Jameson) Baileys Irish cream (I have a homemade recipe that I love) Kahlua Vanilla ice cream Ice Chocolate, shaved (mini chocolate chips may be substituted)

How to Make a Frozen Mudslide

These frozen mudslide cocktails are so easy to make, yet look much more impressive. Here are the basic steps to making this rich Baileys and Kahlua drink:

Can I Make a Non-Alcoholic Frozen Mudslide?

I don’t know of a way to make these mudslides non-alcoholic since there really aren’t ingredients substitutions for various liqueurs used in the recipe.  If you remove the alcohol, you’re left with chocolate, ice cream, and ice, which basically is a milkshake. Delicious but not the same.

Can I Double This Recipe?

Of course! However, you’ll likely need to make the Kahluha mudslides in batches, as your blender may not be big enough to hold twice the amount of ingredients.

Recipe Variations to Try

This frozen mudslide cocktail recipe is very simple, but you can play around with the ingredients a bit to customize the drink to your liking.

Use a different flavor of ice cream: Instead of vanilla ice cream, try using coffee or chocolate ice cream.  Use homemade Baileys: Making homemade Baileys Irish cream is so easy, and it’s even better than the bottled stuff!  Use hot fudge: Swap out the chocolate sauce for homemade hot fudge, if you have the time and desire.  Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips: Don’t want to make chocolate shavings? Use mini chocolate chips to save time.

Tips for the Best Frozen Mudslide Drink

As you are drizzling in the chocolate syrup, you can also dip the rims of the glassware in chocolate syrup. Add a bit of chocolate syrup to a shallow bowl and dip away.  If you happen to have any graham crack crumbs on hand, you could also dip your chocolaty rims in graham cracker crumbs. When blending the mudslide mixture, it should be sufficiently thick. If you need to add a bit more ice to achieve a thicker consistency, feel free to do so.
