Cafe au lait is French for “coffee with milk”. The same drink is called caffe latte in Italy and cafe con leche in Spain. It is made with a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio of dark roast brewed coffee to heated milk or half-n-half. Add sugar to taste!
Based on how I fix and like my coffee (a little coffee with lots of half and half and sweetener), I drink a cafe au lait-style coffee daily, which I pronounce as oh-lay, not ahh-late.
A national holiday is not needed for me to enjoy a homemade Cafe au Lait. This one is even creamier. I guess you’d call it Cafe au Baileys. Aka: Cafe au So Good.
I’ve also been enjoying these caramels and they are especially wonderful washed down with a cup of coffee.
Along with my love of coffee, I love caramels, caramel sauce, and caramel-flavored anything… Caramel Apple Bars (GF with Vegan adaptation)
Caramel Maple Pumpkin Pie Smoothie
Raw Vegan GF Caramels (sandwich style with peanut butter in the middle) Caramel Peanut Butter and Apricot Jelly Bars (GF with Vegan adaptation)
I just unwrapped 40 caramels and made something else with them.
My fingers are tired after all that unwrapping, but it was so worth it. The recipe is coming. The Peanut Butter Cheerios Giveaway winners will be announced Friday. Are you celebrating Cafe au Lait Day with coffee or any specialty coffee drinks? I will be, indeed. It’s a holiday that I celebrate every day, a few times over. I want to give a special shoutout to longtime reader and friend, Michele S., who sent me a delicious bag of coffee, which I’ve been savoring the past few mornings. Do you like caramels? I love them and if you have any favorite caramel recipes, link them here, where you can easily drop in a picture, too. TGIF and enjoy your weekend!
