Easy Chili Cheese Dip Recipe
Football season is upon us, and if you’re in charge of making the snacks for a crew of hungry fans, this chili cream cheese dip is the perfect easy game day dip. Or make this dip when you want to curl up on the couch with some hearty comfort food to go along with your Netflix marathon. Or maybe you are responsible for bringing an appetizer to a party or potluck, this is the easiest one ever. This chili dip is incredibly easy, only has three main ingredients, and it’s ready in just five minutes because you make it in the microwave.
What’s in Chili Cheese Dip?
To make this chili cream cheese dip recipe, you’ll need:
Cream cheese Chili Shredded cheddar cheese Green onions (for garnish)
How to Make Chili Cheese Dip
Simply spread a layer of cream cheese into a glass pie plate (it’s very important you use glass or another microwave-safe pie plate or dish), add a can of chili, top with shredded cheese, and microwave it. Voila, you’re done. In my microwave, four minutes is perfect but microwaves vary widely in their intensity so check early and often. Don’t be afraid to cook it longer to get the cheese to melt if yours is taking a bit longer.
Can I Make Chili Cheese Dip in the Oven?
Yes, you can make this chili cheese dip in the oven too. I guesstimate a 400F oven for 15 minutes or until the cheese has melted. But because the goal of this recipe is fast and easy, I actually haven’t ever baked it. For some great baked dip ideas, check these out.
What Kind Of Chili Should I Use?
I used a grocery store brand of ‘hot’ chili. Apparently I’ve been eating way too much authentically hot Mexican food (follow my Instagram stories to check out my grub) or my homemade chili because I did not find the store-bought chili hot in the least. Unless someone is extremely heat sensitive, I would opt for a hotter rather than milder chili because cream cheese and shredded cheese are pretty plain and the hotter chili jazzes things up enough so it’s not boring. If you have a batch of homemade chili and are wondering what to do with the leftovers, this is an excellent way to repurpose some.
Tips for Making Chili Cheese Dip
Be sure to use brick-style cream cheese and not the whipped kind that comes in a tub. Brick-style cream cheese makes for the creamiest chili cheese dip. If using canned chili, give it a taste before mixing together the chili dip. You may want to add a sprinkle of cayenne or chili powder before assembling the chili cheese dip to give it some extra oompf. If you have leftover chili cheese dip, reheat it gently in the oven or microwave or enjoy cold.
